Raspberry Pi Terabyte Block Initiative


Our premise is simple, if a full node hosted on a Raspberry Pi3 can handle beyond the BCH traffic of today with significant further margin available, then we have potentially years of adoption margin to see us beyond the arrival of the next generation of Raspberry Pi which will do likewise. Moore's law ensures the generations of Raspberry Pi will always be available to provide a Bitcoin BCH Full node while maintaining the same price per node of today.

We support the whitepaper Bitcoin, Bitcoin BCH with its moore's law driven on-chain scaling thesis. We believe Bitcoin BCH can grow on-chain without risk of centralisation because everyone will enjoy today's datacenter in their pocket tomorrow, just as we have yesterday's datacenter in our pocket today.

The mission of this users group is to ensure that full node implementation capacity margin stays beyond Bitcoin BCH adoption curve into perpetuity.

Today a Raspberry Pi3 can easily handle a full Bitcoin BCH node implementation with capacity to spare and plenty of node software improvements to harness this little machine's full potential with its multiple cores, graphics engine, and so on still to come.

Raspberry-Pi

I want to sign you up to a Townsville Bitcoin user group that will concentrate on RPi BCH full node development. The premise is to ride the RPi moore's law to always have an RPi full node solution even when we are operating at TB blocks. Strictly speaking we should be running a TB node on a Raspberry Pi 15 by then but still at $32 Hey moore's law is in the Bitcoin whitepaper. So long as moore's law stays ahead of BCH adoption we will always be able to run a full node on a RPi. Even today a RPi3 will only tap out at about 20MB blocks and we are only scratching the surface of what a RPi with efficient software can do. The premise of the company is to treat each generation of RPi as an epoch of expansion to the next generation of RPi. For example we are only a month or two from RPi 4 But we will drive technical development with a timeline that includes some high tech in the future. Even so the RPi3 can handle BCH growth into the 10MB region. With efficent software it can see us to the next RPi generation etc. The point I am making is that the RPi3 today can serve an epoch of 2-3 years. RPi 4 is available in 2 months and will serve and epoch beyond that of RPi3, and so on. We always stay ahead of adoption yet full node costs stay at $32 I will headline it by saying we will run TB blocks on RP. Just that it will be RPi15 Moore's law is only part of the solution. Software development is the key to keeping each RPi epoch ahead of adoption. The roadmap of RPi epochs includes future incorporation of advance technology along the lines of what Amaury has alread achieved CTOR, graphene, emergent coding etc Using a custom asic we can validate a TB of transactions in only a couple watts. I want BCH to become the currency of the world and this is a lovely strategy that seizes the initiative. Like Amaury said, we build our own future.

Jonathan Toomim - "When someone, somewhere demonstrates a scalable blockchain that won't bottleneck or fall over under load then we can make a real difference for humanity. I find this to be a legitimate motivation to continue work on Xthinner and (especially) Blocktorrent, and it's one of the things that remains after pruning off the tribal warfare mentality. One of my personal goals is to make mining 1 GB or larger blocks feasible on $500 hardware. I think we're not that far from achieving that goal. Blocktorrent plus a bit of multithreading will probably be enough."

Advantages of a Full Node

  • A merchant running a full node enjoys their own view of the network and can deploy advanced double-spend fraud detection when using 0-conf. Detection works by observing the broadcast transaction as it propagates over the network thus it is as fast to detect fraud as 0-conf itself.
  • A merchant running a full node have a local copy of the UTXOs for the fastest verification of a transaction.
  • A merchant running a full node have the greatest flexibility with the design of a User Payment Experience (UPX).
